Frontiers and Freedom


Although EU-citizens can freely move within the EU, borders exist around the European Union. Recent dramatic events indicate that migrant smuggling is becoming a fast growing global criminal activity. Migrants arrive on dangerous ways: in 2014 more than 3000 people are estimated to have lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea. These, usually young people are fleeing from poverty, terror, hunger, social and political instability, with the hope for a better life. Arriving to Europe is not always the end of their odyssey: In some countries the national policies and xenophobia makes their situation even worse. What is your opinion on the issue?
